Skala

Skala is a particularly popular destination in Kefalonia as it has an excellent and very long beach that stretches for about 5 km. Scala is a very important tourist resort, but it is also a lively village with many permanent residents. Today’s village was built after the earthquakes of 1953, while the oldest village destroyed by the earthquakes was a little higher, and today it is also aware of this significant tourist development with the erection of this luxury traditional tourist housing.

Skala offers both natural sights and historical monuments. You can visit the cave of Sakkos which is witnessed by a human presence from the prehistoric period, as well as the waterfalls of the village of Grada, where some seasons of the year run through the waters, creating an amazing landscape with natural lakes where you can swim. You can still see the ruins of the old village and Archaic temple on the way to Poros dating back to the 6th century BC, whose Doric columns are rescued, as well as the chapel of St. George, for the construction of which materials were used from the archaic temple. Another great attraction in the area is the Roman villa which is very close to the beach and the temple.

The beach of Skala has blond sand and deep conifers. Access to this is very easy by car or on foot. The beach is organized, it has sun loungers and umbrellas, beach bar and caf?, and although it is busy it never gives the feeling of overcrowding due to its length. Those who love swimming and water sports will love the beach of Skala with its crystal clear waters and open view!
