Maritime – Folklore museum of Ithaca
The museum was founded on a private initiative in 1996/97 and was then taken over by the Municipality of Ithaca. It is housed in the building of the Electric Power Station, which was constructed in 1923 with the donation of Georgios Drakoulis and supplied with electricity to Vathy and Perachori until 1967.
The collection includes more than 1,500 exhibits and after the redevelopment of the site and the exhibits in 2012, the Nautical-Folklore Museum of Ithaca is one of the best Folklore Museums in the country.
On the ground floor of the museum there are exhibits from the rich naval history of Ithaca, such as photographs and seascapes, naval instruments, uniforms, books and documents of the Naval School of Stathatos that operated in the early 20th century and was famous all over Greece, etc. There are exhibited tools related to various traditional professions and agricultural equipment, ecclesiastical art objects, replicas of local dress samples, musical instruments, embroidery and more as well as, a rich collection of gramophones.
The floor has been shaped as a representation of home areas where furniture, bronze and ceramic items of everyday use and household utensils, garments and jewelery mainly of the bourgeoisie are displayed from the 18th to the 20th century. Among many other exhibits, there is also a loom, stamp collections, the municipal collection of paintings, and a collection of copper-engravings with the Homeric forms offered by the Center for Odyssey Studies.

September – June 9: 00am – 3pm (except Sundays and Mondays)
July and August 9: 30am – 13:30pm and 18:00pm – 21:00pm (except Tuesdays).
