In the heart of Argostoli there is the complex of local government buildings. On the central Argostoli Square there are the old Town Hall of Argostoli and on the recently pedestrianized P. Vallianou Avenue, the building of the former Prefecture and now the Regional Unity of Kefallinia. Both are modernist works by the great Kephalonian engineer Takis Pavlatos.

Opposite the building of Regional Unity is the new Town Hall, a post-neo-classical building of the neo-classical style that formerly belonged to the Bank of Greece and was purchased by the Municipality of Argostoli in 2009 to become a cultural center and a gallery but eventually covered the needs of the unified Kefalonia .

Also on 21st May, connecting the Central Square with the port, is the Citizens Service Center of Argostoli, which is housed in the old building of Loutra.
